03:07 · A NIGHT IN THIS LIFE

The one cold email Dale didn't delete

Hank · Sales development rep at a freight software company in Omaha, Nebraska

Dale runs operations for a carrier with sixty trucks out of Tulsa. He deletes cold email for a living: forty a day, every one a "quick question" that isn't about him. The one he answered in March mentioned the two dispatcher jobs he'd posted six days earlier and asked how nights were getting covered until the seats were filled. Dale typed one line back: who is this.

Up the interstate in Omaha, Hank was the who. SDR at a freight visibility platform, 280 accounts, quota of twelve meetings a month. The visible job was calls and demos. The real job happened after dinner: scraping carrier directories, pasting contacts into the CRM, guessing at openers from a two minute profile skim, and a follow up spreadsheet he was honestly afraid to open. He hit quota most months. He just had nothing left over.

Read the whole night

The switch

Hank had churned through three SDR tools that year, and all of them were sequence machines wearing his signature. A molted sounded like more of the same, but the first 24 hours were free, so the worst case was a wasted Friday. He gave it one mission and kept it small: here are 40 accounts, my ICP notes, and three emails I actually wrote. Enrich the accounts. Draft one opener each, in my voice. Send nothing. Then he went to a Storm Chasers game and left his laptop closed.

That night

23:47, first note in the log: 38 of the 40 accounts matched his ICP, two flagged as too small to bother, decision makers being enriched. At 01:15 it hit a state carrier directory with no API, so it opened a real browser, paged through the clunky lookup one results screen at a time, and pulled the list anyway. By 03:10 there were 38 first touches drafted, one per human, none reusable on the next. At 05:20 it surfaced three warm signals: one carrier announcing thirty new trucks and two dispatcher job posts in Tulsa, and rewrote those openers around them. At 07:00 the morning report was waiting.

The morning

He read it before the coffee finished. Thirty eight enriched accounts, thirty eight drafts, three flagged warm. He read the Tulsa draft twice, hunting for the template smell, and couldn't find it. He edited four, approved the rest with his thumb while his daughter negotiated her way out of cereal. Everything was sent by 7:40. Dale answered at 9:05, and Hank booked him for Thursday.

Months later

The molted runs the whole shift now. Follow ups go out at day 12 and day 45 and never get dropped. Replies come back sorted: interested, later, never, with meetings proposed against his real calendar. His AE walks into every call with a one page brief on who this is and why now. When a Tuesday no show ghosts, it's rebooked by morning, no hard feelings. His manager quietly paused the req for a second SDR and gave Hank the Kansas City territory instead. Five straight months at quota. It started as forty accounts on a Friday night, and Hank hasn't worked a Friday night since.

I didn't automate my job. I hired the part of it that happened after dinner.

Hank is fictional. The workload is not.

They sell you Tom, your new “AI SDR”.

Tom has a name, a face and a job title. Tom is a workflow: a fixed script with a persona on top, wired to rules his vendor picked, not you. When step 3 breaks, Tom stops. When a tool has no API, Tom is blind. At 2am, Tom is out of office.

Vendors sell casts of characters because personas are easy and autonomy is brutally hard. The catalog is the confession.

Rigid pipelines, wired to rules they picked, not you. You don't adapt them: you contort yourself to fit them. That isn't custom. It's off the rack: fast fashion, the same t‑shirt for everyone, and you settle for the size that's least wrong.

One molted, cut to fit.

Something that actually fits, learns your business and evolves with it: for that, you go to a tailor. molted is the tailor, and your molted is the worker: one autonomous agent, tailored to you, at scale. Tom wears a costume. A molted does the job.

06:35 · FOR THE ONES WHO KNOW

Sounds familiar? It should.

If names like OpenClaw or Hermes ring a bell, you already know this class of machine: true autonomous runtimes, real depth, no ceiling. A molted lives in that same league, raised for the cloud: pre tuned, secured, monitored, with memory, channels and 1,000+ integrations wired from day one. Nothing to install, nothing to babysit.

Theirs is power for builders. A molted is that power, employed.

Asked every night

How is this different from AI SDR tools?

SDR tools run one scripted sequence and stop at their integrations. A molted is an autonomous worker on the SDR shift: it researches, adapts angles, uses a real browser where there is no API, and tomorrow it can run a different shift entirely.

I'm technical. Couldn't I build this myself?

With open source pieces and a few free weekends, you can build a demo. Keeping it alive at 3am, secured, patched and remembering what it did last week is the part nobody enjoys. That part is our whole job.

Is this just another chatbot?

No. A chatbot answers when you type. Your molted owns missions, acts on a schedule, uses real tools (email, phone, a real browser) and reports back every morning.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Pick a mission, connect your channels, done: 3 clicks, no server, no config files. Power users still get the full depth underneath.

What happens after the first night?

You get the morning report of everything your molted did. Love it, keep it running from $14/mo. Don't, cancel in one click during the 24h trial and pay nothing.

Where do my agent and my data live?

On managed infrastructure we run and monitor 24/7, isolated per customer, keys encrypted. Your data trains nothing.
