Her billing runs three weeks behind because she rebuilds her time from memory on Sunday nights, phone in one hand, calendar in the other, guessing at the half hours. The trust ledger reconciles late. The research memos she owes herself never get written. She became a lawyer to argue. Most of her week is the paper around the argument.

The morning
She read the report twice, then pulled the two flagged cases herself, because she is a lawyer and trust is earned in the reporters, not claimed in a summary. molted was right on both. She walked into Monday's status conference knowing the file better than the associate across the aisle who had lived with it for a year. Her coffee was still hot when she finished reading. Months later
The intake line answers at 9pm now, matter type qualified, conflict check run against her client list, consultation slots proposed by morning. Her unbilled time gets reconstructed nightly from calls, emails and edits; last quarter she found eleven hours a month she used to lose. Engagement letters draft themselves from her template and wait for her word. Court dates and statutes get tracked, reminders early, and client updates go out in plain language on schedule. She had budgeted $55K for a legal assistant this year. She hired an associate instead, for the work that needs a license. Bella still signs everything. The nights belong to her again.
