Marcy Holt's water heater let go on a Tuesday night in east Wichita. By 10:40pm there was an inch of water in the hallway and she was filing a claim from the kitchen floor, phone in one hand, shop vac in the other. She figured she'd hear back Monday. At 11:58 she had an acknowledgment, a document checklist, and a request for photos of the baseboards. She told her sister the agency must run a night desk.
It doesn't. It has Ian, 41, a two desk office off East Kellogg in Wichita, and a book of about 700 policies he mostly carries in his head. His evenings used to be renewal spreadsheets and carrier portals, each with its own password and none with an API worth using. Policies lapsed quietly because nobody chased them. Claims meant hand holding calls during dinner. A CSR costs $45K he didn't have.

The switch
An agent in his study group mentioned he'd hired a molted, the way he might have mentioned hiring a part timer. Ian was skeptical. He'd tried tools that spat out generic emails no client of his would ever read. But this one worked like a hire, not a tool, and the first 24 hours cost him nothing. So he gave it the smallest mission on his desk, the renewal list, 31 policies coming due in 30 days, and went to bed annoyed at himself for hoping.
That night

The morning

He typed "send them," four words before his coffee cooled, and for the first time in years he walked his daughter to the bus stop without his phone in his hand.
Months later
The renewal mission never stopped. Ian added claims duty, which is how Marcy got answered at 11:58, then referral asks timed to happy moments instead of random Tuesdays. The molted spotted two life events last month, a new house and a new baby, and proposed coverage reviews before the clients thought to call. It mapped twelve auto only households and prepped the home quotes. The CSR hire is postponed indefinitely; the second agent on his plan now works claims full time. The book sits at 840 policies and Ian still leaves at five. Nothing in his book lapses quietly anymore.
