Late check in arranged, answered inside the platform's clock. 1:30am, the guest in 12 asked about breakfast before a 6am canyon shuttle: note logged for the morning shift, coffee and a paper bag out by 5:30. 5:45am, tomorrow's arrivals listed with notes: one anniversary, one dog, one early departure. 7:00am, the report: two bookings, zero missed calls, good morning.
The morning
It read like a colleague's shift note, not a transcript. The family from Winslow had already checked in, asleep in 4 and 5. Zeke answered the report in three words, approved the anniversary note for housekeeping, and ate breakfast sitting down, which his wife pointed out she hadn't seen him do on a Wednesday in years. The phone hadn't woken him once. He upgraded before the trial clock ran out.
Months later
The night line was mission one. Now the molted runs the OTA inboxes across three platforms and answers reviews in Zeke's voice, warm for praise, careful for complaints, and it was a review that flagged room 7's heater before a second guest ever felt it. In October it spotted two soft midweeks, matched past canyon guests to the dates, and filled eleven room nights with one email. The night auditor posting he'd drafted never went up: the $38K went into new mattresses instead. He's walking a 12 room property in Williams with a broker. The lobby lights go off at ten, and the hotel keeps working.
