03:07 · A NIGHT IN THIS LIFE

The supplier portal that ate Marcus's nights

Marcus · Owns a two person online camp gear store in Richmond, Virginia

Tuesday, 12:47 a.m., Richmond. Marcus is at the kitchen table with the supplier portal in one tab and a chargeback notice in the other. The portal, built sometime around 2009, logs him out every twenty minutes; he has typed his password four times tonight trying to export a price list his supplier changed without a word. Three purchase orders are late, and nobody in Ningbo answers during his evening. The chargeback on a $412 hammock stand is due Friday, and the evidence lives in six places: carrier scans, two email threads, a photo a customer sent and then ghosted. He ships eleven hundred orders a month with one packer who comes in afternoons. The front of the store runs itself. The back of it runs on his sleep.

Read the whole night

The switch

Another store owner in his group chat mentioned hiring "a molted" the way people mention hiring a person, which Marcus found mildly ridiculous. But the first night was free, all 24 hours of it, and his only plan for that night was the portal anyway. So he wrote one mission in plain English: log into the supplier portal, export the new price list, chase my three late POs, tell me what changed. Three clicks, no server, no code. He went to bed skeptical and a little hopeful, in that order.

That night

23:41. The portal has no API, so the molted didn't look for one. It opened a real browser, logged in, got timed out, logged back in, and exported the price list.

00:58. Three late purchase orders chased by email, polite but firm, each one quoting the original PO number and the promised ship date.

02:36. New price list diffed against the old one: seven SKUs up, margins recomputed, two now sitting under his floor.

04:50. Stock math done. Reorders drafted for three SKUs that would run dry before the next container, waiting on his ok.

The morning

7:00 a.m., one report. Suppliers chased, the seven price changes listed with the margin damage in actual dollars, three reorder drafts, and one question: want the two underwater SKUs repriced? He answered from the school drop off line: "yes, and send the POs." Six words. It was the first weekday in months he packed his daughter's lunch instead of apologizing to her through the office door.

Months later

The dispute mission came two weeks in, after the next chargeback: evidence compiled from carrier scans, emails, and photos, filed on the processor portal a day before the deadline. He won it. Then came the nightly price watch on three competitors, then review replies written in his voice with the angry ones flagged. The job post he'd drafted for a $45K ops assistant is still a draft. In March he opened a second storefront on a marketplace he'd been avoiding for years and moved up to Pro so another molted could run its back office. The store got bigger. His nights got smaller.

The supplier portal still has no API. I'm just not the workaround anymore.

Marcus is fictional. The workload is not.

They sell you Tom, your new “AI SDR”.

Tom has a name, a face and a job title. Tom is a workflow: a fixed script with a persona on top, wired to rules his vendor picked, not you. When step 3 breaks, Tom stops. When a tool has no API, Tom is blind. At 2am, Tom is out of office.

Vendors sell casts of characters because personas are easy and autonomy is brutally hard. The catalog is the confession.

A bot for everything. Good at nothing.

Rigid pipelines, wired to rules they picked, not you. You don't adapt them: you contort yourself to fit them. That isn't custom. It's off the rack: fast fashion, the same t‑shirt for everyone, and you settle for the size that's least wrong.

One molted, cut to fit.

Something that actually fits, learns your business and evolves with it: for that, you go to a tailor. molted is the tailor, and your molted is the worker: one autonomous agent, tailored to you, at scale. Tom wears a costume. A molted does the job.

06:35 · FOR THE ONES WHO KNOW

Sounds familiar? It should.

If names like OpenClaw or Hermes ring a bell, you already know this class of machine: true autonomous runtimes, real depth, no ceiling. A molted lives in that same league, raised for the cloud: pre tuned, secured, monitored, with memory, channels and 1,000+ integrations wired from day one. Nothing to install, nothing to babysit.

Theirs is power for builders. A molted is that power, employed.

Asked every night

My tools already automate emails. What's different?

Email flows are covered by your ESP. A molted does what has no app: supplier portals without APIs, chargeback evidence, reorder judgment, price moves. The messy 40% of the job.

I'm technical. Couldn't I build this myself?

With open source pieces and a few free weekends, you can build a demo. Keeping it alive at 3am, secured, patched and remembering what it did last week is the part nobody enjoys. That part is our whole job.

Is this just another chatbot?

No. A chatbot answers when you type. Your molted owns missions, acts on a schedule, uses real tools (email, phone, a real browser) and reports back every morning.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Pick a mission, connect your channels, done: 3 clicks, no server, no config files. Power users still get the full depth underneath.

What happens after the first night?

You get the morning report of everything your molted did. Love it, keep it running from $14/mo. Don't, cancel in one click during the 24h trial and pay nothing.

Where do my agent and my data live?

On managed infrastructure we run and monitor 24/7, isolated per customer, keys encrypted. Your data trains nothing.
