03:07 · A NIGHT IN THIS LIFE

Two monitors, cold coffee, and a launch at 00:01 Pacific

Maya · Solo developer in Portland, Maine, shipping side projects around client work

3:41 a.m. in Portland, and Maya's third launch was eating her alive. Product Hunt went live at 00:01 Pacific, which meant 3:01 her time, which meant she'd set an alarm she didn't need because she never went to bed. Two monitors: launch comments on the left, a failing staging deploy on the right. A user in Berlin had emailed twice about webhooks. Someone reported a bug she couldn't reproduce and someone else reported one she could, and she couldn't tell which deserved her at that hour. The changelog thread sat half written in a draft. At 9 she had client work, the kind that paid for the side projects, and she'd show up wrecked. Her first two launches went the same way. Ship, guard the thing all night, lose three days recovering, swear off launching. Repeat.

Read the whole night

The switch

A friend from a builders Discord mentioned molted almost as an apology: an agent she could hire like an employee, one per project. Maya had duct taped automations before and watched every one of them break on the first weird input, so she expected nothing. But project four was ready, and the trial gave her 24 hours free, which happened to cover launch night. Three clicks, no server, no code. She wrote one mission: run the launch while I sleep, answer in my tone, open issues for real bugs, wake me only if the site goes down. Then she set no alarm.

That night

23:47, the launch draft was polished and scheduled for 00:01 Pacific. 03:52, fourteen comments answered in her voice, including the guy asking how it compared to a tool that shut down last year. 04:30, three bug reports triaged: two were config on the user's end, one was real, so the molted opened an issue with a clean repro and steps. 05:15, the staging deploy failed on a missing env var; the variable existed in production but not in staging, so it copied the setting over in the hosting dashboard, redeployed, and noted it for the report. 06:58, the report landed: 187 signups, one real bug, five user emails answered straight from her docs, changelog thread drafted and queued, waiting on her thumbs up.

The morning

She read it on the porch with coffee that was actually hot for once. The report was two screens long and needed exactly one decision. She typed "ship it all" and watched the thread go out under her name. The strangest part wasn't the signups. It was her hands. Every other launch morning they'd had a caffeine tremor by 8 a.m. This time they were just holding a mug.

Months later

The launch molted stayed on shift. It answers support emails from her docs, watches the logs at night, and briefs her the morning a competitor ships new pricing. When project five was ready she moved to Pro and gave it a molted of its own; by morning it had shortlisted three available domains with prices, drafted a landing page from her README, and mapped twenty communities where her first users actually were. She'd priced out a part-time VA and a support contractor this year, close to a grand a month she didn't really have. She kept the money and kept the roadmap. Maya still ships at midnight. She just isn't awake for it.

I used to guard my launches until sunrise. Now I hand the night to my molted and read the report with hot coffee.

Maya is fictional. The workload is not.

They sell you Tom, your new “AI SDR”.

Tom has a name, a face and a job title. Tom is a workflow: a fixed script with a persona on top, wired to rules his vendor picked, not you. When step 3 breaks, Tom stops. When a tool has no API, Tom is blind. At 2am, Tom is out of office.

Vendors sell casts of characters because personas are easy and autonomy is brutally hard. The catalog is the confession.

A bot for everything. Good at nothing.

Rigid pipelines, wired to rules they picked, not you. You don't adapt them: you contort yourself to fit them. That isn't custom. It's off the rack: fast fashion, the same t‑shirt for everyone, and you settle for the size that's least wrong.

One molted, cut to fit.

Something that actually fits, learns your business and evolves with it: for that, you go to a tailor. molted is the tailor, and your molted is the worker: one autonomous agent, tailored to you, at scale. Tom wears a costume. A molted does the job.

06:35 · FOR THE ONES WHO KNOW

Sounds familiar? It should.

If names like OpenClaw or Hermes ring a bell, you already know this class of machine: true autonomous runtimes, real depth, no ceiling. A molted lives in that same league, raised for the cloud: pre tuned, secured, monitored, with memory, channels and 1,000+ integrations wired from day one. Nothing to install, nothing to babysit.

Theirs is power for builders. A molted is that power, employed.

Asked every night

I already use AI to write code. Why this?

Copilots write code with you. A molted runs the business around the code: the launch, the users, the logs, the outreach, on shift while you build or sleep. One molted per project keeps every context clean.

I'm technical. Couldn't I build this myself?

With open source pieces and a few free weekends, you can build a demo. Keeping it alive at 3am, secured, patched and remembering what it did last week is the part nobody enjoys. That part is our whole job.

Is this just another chatbot?

No. A chatbot answers when you type. Your molted owns missions, acts on a schedule, uses real tools (email, phone, a real browser) and reports back every morning.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Pick a mission, connect your channels, done: 3 clicks, no server, no config files. Power users still get the full depth underneath.

What happens after the first night?

You get the morning report of everything your molted did. Love it, keep it running from $14/mo. Don't, cancel in one click during the 24h trial and pay nothing.

Where do my agent and my data live?

On managed infrastructure we run and monitor 24/7, isolated per customer, keys encrypted. Your data trains nothing.
