Eleven forty on a Tuesday night in Indianapolis, and Otis was still in the CRM. Fountain Square apartment, laptop fan whining, coffee cold since the nine o'clock block of dials. Fourteen Sales Navigator tabs open and a spreadsheet of 38 target accounts he was supposed to have researched by Friday. Sixty dials logged that day. Four conversations. Zero meetings. His AE had pinged him at 6pm: anything on the calendar for next week? There wasn't. The math of the job had stopped working. Every genuinely personalized email took twenty minutes of digging, and every templated one got smelled and deleted. He could do quality or he could do volume, and quota wanted both. He fell asleep at the table with tab nine still loading a prospect's funding announcement.

The switch
A friend from his old sales job sent him a link with one line: it does the research part. Otis was skeptical. He'd already burned a quarter on an AI SDR tool that sprayed templates and torched two good accounts. But the first 24 hours were free, so the next morning at 8:52, right before his nine o'clock block, he gave the thing the ugliest job he had: the 38 accounts, one instruction. Research each one for real. News, hires, stack clues. If there's nothing worth saying, say nothing. Then he picked up the phone and started dialing.
The first mission
09:11, all 38 accounts researched: recent news, new hires, stack clues pulled from job posts and press pages, one by one in a real browser. 09:24, two accounts disqualified with written reasons, one had just signed a competitor, one was in a hiring freeze. The list got shorter and cleaner. 09:41, openers drafted from actual findings: a fundraise here, a new VP of Ops there, a job post that named the exact problem Otis sells against. The report
Otis read it standing at the counter between dial blocks, coffee going cold again. Thirty six live accounts, two cut for reasons he agreed with, thirty six openers that sounded like a person who'd done the reading, because something had. One flagged a Series B he'd completely missed. A week of research had come back before his first block of the day was even over. He approved the batch from his phone in two words. That week, four replies came back from accounts that had ignored him for a month.
Months later
The molted runs the replies now too. Objections answered with proof points, referrals chased to the right person, meetings dropped on the AE's calendar with a brief: who, why now, what to watch out for. It follows champions who change jobs; three of those turned into open doors. When subject line B started winning, it rolled it out on its own. His VP had a req open for a second BDR and quietly closed it. Otis made President's Club in April, and he hasn't researched an account at midnight since. The digging belongs to the machine, and the calendar belongs to him.
